Background Information:
Patient’s illness started May of 2011 when he complained of eye pain, tearing and redness. He was brought here for consult and after series of tests; he was diagnosed to have Retinoblastoma. He was operated last September 2011 for which the left eye was removed. He is on chemotherapy now and is scheduled for artificial eye implantation late this month. He is on his second course of chemotherapy and needs to complete the regimen for six courses.
Patient is not in school this year. He was able to complete his Kindergarten level but was no longer enrolled in Grade 1 because of the onset of illness. His treatment is being prioritized instead. He apparently has normal developmental milestone and is described to be an active and playful child prior the onset of illness. After the first chemotherapy, he is able to resume his activities now. He is the younger of the two children.
Patient’s family is from Bicol. Both parents are Bicolanos and they used to live in the province. With his need for treatment, the older brother is left to a relative who looks after him while the parents are with the patient here in Manila. They stay temporarily in Valenzuela with the father’s aunt.
Patient’s father is currently working as a construction worker. He had just recovered form a mild stroke last year hence is able to work again. In the times that he was ill, they fully depend on his [parents for all their daily needs. His wife on the other hand used to work as a factory worker but stopped when she gave birth to their first child. She is a full time housewife since then.

Patient was diagnosed to have Acute Leukemia when he was six years old. He graduated from chemotherapy in 2007 and had gone a lot of sufferings from the illness before he was considered as a survivor. However, he presented symptoms of gradual left sided weakness and seizure attacks 5 months ago. He underwent series of laboratory work-ups for which a tumor was detected. He underwent tumor 2 months ago which afforded relief on him. He regained ambulation and speech. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were advised. He started his first cycle of chemotherapy.
Patient is the younger of two children. He is a freshman high school student in their local school and was apparently well. He is described to be friendly, charming and outgoing teenager. He likes to play computer games with other cancer stricken children when they are in PGH for their weekly meeting. His brother graduated from a vocational course and is applying for a job.
Patient and his brother grew up with their paternal grandmother. They were seen very close to their caregiver. The latter attended to their needs after their mother died in 2002. Their father is presently jobless but used to be a factory worker.

He also attends regular check-up and undergoes series of laboratory work-ups to monitor his condition.
Patient was born out-of-wedlock. He was born pre-term through normal delivery. He was also diagnosed to have a global developmental delay. At his age, he cannot utter a word, stand and walk. His daily living activities are being assisted by his caregiver. He is still on milk formula. Patient and his mother are active members of Pedia Onco Support Group of Medical Social Service. They attend session every week.
Patient's father abandoned his mother when the latter got pregnant. Patient's mother is a single parent. She used to work as a domestic helper. She stopped working to prioritize patient's treatment. His maternal relatives extend support to his medical needs.
